Local Area – Porthmadog, Snowdonia & the Llŷn Peninsula

Porthmadog is a charming harbour town set between the mountains of Snowdonia and the coastline of Cardigan Bay, offering the perfect blend of scenery, heritage and gentle exploration.

One of the area’s best-loved attractions is the Ffestiniog and Welsh Highland Railways, which depart from Porthmadog and travel through some of the most spectacular landscapes in Wales. These historic steam railways offer a wonderfully unhurried way to enjoy the mountains and are especially popular with visitors who enjoy photography, history and scenic journeys.

Walkers are spoilt for choice, with routes to suit all abilities – from flat harbour and coastal paths to gentle countryside trails and more challenging mountain walks further inland. Nearby beaches such as Black Rock Sands, Borth-y-Gest and Morfa Bychan are perfect for quiet strolls, sea views and watching the sunset over the bay.

Just a short drive away lies the beautiful Llŷn Peninsula, often described as one of Wales’ hidden gems. Designated an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, it offers dramatic coastline, peaceful sandy coves, rolling countryside and traditional Welsh villages where life still moves at a slower pace.
